Shannon Harris
Director of Development
Prior to this position, she was a generative force behind three high-profile programs at the conservation-focused nonprofit Texan by Nature, founded by former First Lady Laura Bush, as well as with Texas CityLab, a service-learning initiative at UT’s School of Architecture. She also held positions at The University of Texas at Austin in both the Graduate School and the College of Liberal Arts.
An effective fundraiser, collaborator and manager, Shannon has a bachelor’s in geography and a master’s in sustainable design from The University of Texas at Austin. She researched innovative water conservation initiatives in Texas as well as the beautification policies of Lady Bird Johnson and the Johnson Administration to understand the Johnsons’ view on how nature positively impacts people. She also once interned with the Wildflower Center’s Ecological Research and Design team.
Shannon has lived in Germany, Austria and five different states in the U.S. and now resides in Austin with her husband and cat. She has two sons and one daughter-in-law and enjoys hiking, the arts, traveling and the challenge of identifying native Texas plants.
