Matt O'Toole
Director of Land Resources
O’Toole oversees research projects focused on sustainable approaches that benefit and incorporate native plants. For instance, he has received national and state training on prescribed fire operations, and manages prescribed fires conducted on Center acreage that have demonstrated how to reduce the presence of an aggressive, invasive grass. O’Toole also trains professionals on sustainable landscape approaches, and helped the City of Austin develop a management plan for removing invasive plants on city lands.
His previous positions included serving as a restoration technician for the Nature Conservancy. O’Toole received a bachelor’s degree in geography from The University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in range and wildlife management from Sul Ross State University, and a master’s in landscape architecture and urban design from Texas A&M University.
