          Education Coordinator

          Julie joined the Wildflower Center as a volunteer in the spring of 2011 and became staff in June 2012.?She organizes and implements Nature Nights, a popular summer event featuring snakes, helicopters, birds of prey and more. In addition, Julie is responsible for creating new programs and updating current programs for school groups, home-school groups and scout groups. She schedules all formal youth groups that want to visit the Wildflower Center?and facilitates?environmental education training workshops for teachers.?Julie strongly believes that a child’s well-being is enhanced by spending time in nature.

          Before joining the Wildflower Center, Julie worked in the education field as a teacher and at?The University of Texas at?Austin as a reading intervention specialist. She was also a volunteer coordinator at Zilker Botanical Garden. She has an associate’s degree in physical science from Austin Community College as well as a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and a master’s degree in elementary education, both from Texas State University.

          Julie?is certified to teach Project WILD and is a facilitator for Project Learning Tree. Outside of work,?Julie enjoys?spending time with her sons and is currently remodeling her house. When she wants to get away, she takes a road trip, goes to the beach and reads a good book, or finds a botanical garden to explore.
